The Latino Fatherhood Outreach Program is an implementation of two complementary functions: the facilitation of skill- building groups for Latino fathers, that operate interactively to provide Latino fathers with constructive fathering understanding and skills and the provision of one-on-one case management services to anyone participating in the support groups.

Basic Skills Trainings & Case Management

This case management provision is designed to run simultaneously with the skill-building groups. The case management component assesses specific needs and links fathers to services provided by the Healthy Fathering Collaborative and other social services networks. These trainings take place at Latino gathering places including churches, social clubs and schools. The facilitators of these trainings encourage Latino men in their roles as fathers and to provide them with accurate and factual information concerning fathering.

The case manager for the Latino program functions as a cultural broker and advocates for the needs of Latino fathers in their varying levels of acculturation into mainstream society. Linguistic translation/interpretation and advocacy with external stakeholders are essential functions of this case management.

Father Support Group

Fathers who share a common bond of some kind come together to share with other fathers their experiences, concerns and ideas for being a better dad. It’s an open and informal network of people to support one another. No advance registration is required and all Latino men are welcomed and encouraged to attend at any time.

The Black & Brown Dialogues

The Black & Brown Dialogues are a series of dialogues between African American fathers and sons and Latino fathers and sons. This community gathering rotates locations on Cleveland's east and west sides. Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center (on the west side) and Passages, Inc. (on the east side) collaborated to develop the Dialogue series in 2007. Both of these community-based organizations prioritize fatherhood and family in their missions and work. The goal of the Black & Brown Dialogues is to bring together urban minority fathers and sons to explore cultural and racial themes, life skills, fatherhood and self identity.

Latino Cultural Competence Training Sessions

The main goal of this coursework is “to foster Latino cultural competence and capacity among the fatherhood service providers of the Healthy Fatherhood Collaborative in order to ensure better understanding & services to Latino fathers in Cuyahoga County.”
